What is Mardi Gras Camp?

Mardi Gras Camp is a one-of-a-kind Scouting experience designed specifically for new Scouts BSA members and Arrow of Light crossovers ready to hit the ground running. Scouts arrive on the Friday evening before Mardi Gras and over three action-packed days, Scouts work toward First Class rank — a journey we’re calling “Footsteps of the Rougarou” — while making friends, learning skills, and having a blast in the Louisiana outdoors.

This isn’t your average camp. Scouts are grouped into patrols by rank and led by older, experienced Staff Scouts who serve as both patrol leaders and instructors. Our goal? To teach real skills while showing every Scout the time of their life. We have added a COPE/Climbing opportunity for Scouts that are not a part of Rougarou, where we will work on team building, climbing, rappelling and, of course, ziplining!!

Who Can Come?

Mardi Gras Camp is open to:

Arrow of Light (AOL) crossovers — brand new to Scouts BSA
Scouts BSA members working toward First Class rank
Scouts BSA members interested in our COPE/Climbing program — not part of Rougarou

If your Scout is just getting started or still finding their footing, this camp was made for them.

Scouts will be placed in a fictional troop for the camp duration. This troop will be led by a team of youth staff members which serve both as the troop leadership and the counselors. During the camp, the patrols will work and together through common rank requirements from Scout to First Class. Adult leaders will be placed as temporary Scoutmasters of the troop.
