Evangeline Area, South Louisiana Council

Scouting in Acadiana has thrived for over 100 years thanks to the dedication of local volunteers who believe in shaping the next generation. The journey began in 1913 with the formation of the area’s first Boy Scout troop in New Iberia, sponsored by the United Methodist Church. From the very beginning, community volunteers played a vital role in delivering the Scouting program to youth.

As participation grew, the need for stronger volunteer support became clear. In April 1924, the Evangeline Area Council was officially chartered by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America to better equip volunteers and expand Scouting’s reach throughout the region.

Today, the Evangeline Area is part of the South Louisiana Council and continues to serve more than 1,000 youth across Acadiana’s eight traditional parishes—Acadia, Evangeline, Lafayette, Iberia, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, and Vermilion. None of this impact would be possible without the commitment of hundreds of volunteers who give their time, talents, and leadership.
