Venturing

Youth 14-21 Years of Age

Venturers take part in a program designed for young adults that is centered on fun, challenge, and real-world adventure. They build skills tied to their crew’s specialty—whether that’s outdoor adventure, leadership, STEM, or the arts—while also growing into leaders who can support and guide others. Along the way, Venturers learn to make ethical decisions grounded in the values of the Scout Oath and Law, all within a supportive environment that encourages personal growth, teamwork, and confidence.

Venturing Ranks

Venturing

The first step in any journey is the courage to begin. At this level, the new crew member makes a commitment to join and move forward into the experience of Venturing.

The adventure of participating with the crew unfolds, and each Venturer begins to discover his or her interests and talents. As the Discovery recipients develop new skills and competencies, their eyes are opened, and the world expands for them.

The Venturer’s capabilities and skills expand, and with them come increased responsibility for defining their own way forward in life, service to others, and formal planning and leadership of the crew toward its goals.

The highest rank of Venturing, the Summit Rank, goes to those Venturers who have matured in their personal direction, skills, and life competencies, and who have accepted the responsibility to mentor others and serve their communities in a lasting way.

Leadership and Mentoring

Venturers are given opportunities to learn and apply proven leadership skills. A Venturing crew is led by youth officers. Training courses, such as the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews, uses experiential learning to teach Venturers how to lead effectively. Once Venturers have led several activities, they are asked to then mentor the other leaders in their crew.

Group Activities and Adventure

Venturers work with teams on everything they do. Their success is dependent on the interaction and cooperation of all, preparing Venturers for their future careers and paths.

Service

Venturers serve their local and distant communities through personal and group service as the crew plans activities and individuals make progress through the Venturing ranks program.

What Do Venturers Do?

Lead the Adventure.

At its core, Venturing is built around the A-L-P-S model:

  • Adventure
  • Leadership
  • Personal Growth
  • Service

Venturers plan and lead their own adventures, take on meaningful leadership roles with guidance from mentors, set and pursue personal goals, and give back through community service. It’s a program where young people don’t just participate—they lead, explore, and grow into capable, service-minded individuals.

How can you help?

The Venturing Committee provides the behind-the-scenes support that keeps the crew running smoothly. They manage administration, finances, resources, and chartering while supporting youth leaders and ensuring the program operates effectively and in line with Scouting policies.

Some Ways you Can Volunteer:

Venturing Advisor

They ensure that the process of Venturing takes place in a fun and safe manner for the youth members of the crew. Their role is to help youth design and carry out the program that the youth officers and crew members designed. An Advisor helps prepare them to make leadership decisions and to be prepared to function effectively as a Venturing crew.

Associate Venturing Advisor

Associate Advisors are a key support role that bridges the gap between the adult leadership team and the youth leaders, helping to create a safe, engaging, and leadership-focused Venturing experience for all members.
