South Louisiana Council Camp & Facility Rentals

The South Louisiana Council provides many different outdoor programs for Scouts BSA, Cub Scouts, Venturing Crews, Sea Scouts, Exploring Posts and Clubs. Some programs and rentals are also available to other organizations who are interested in using one of our camp properties.

Avondale Scout Reservation

Avondale Scout Reservation is located on LA Highway 10, three miles East of Clinton, Louisiana in beautiful East Feliciana Parish. The Reservation has over 1,665 acres of evergreen and hardwood forest, fields, lakes and abundant wildlife. The Reservation has 4 distinct program areas, click on each below to view the map and amenities

Camp Edgewood

Camp Edgewood spans 283 acres in southern Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, nestled between DeQuincy and Ragley, and just a 30-minute drive from downtown Lake Charles. The camp includes 14 campsites, multiple program areas, and a dedicated area for target and range activities. These activities feature archery, rifle, and shotgun ranges with automatic low and high houses. The Dining Hall, with its state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, can accommodate 250 people.

Camp Steen

Camp Steen is a 7-acre site that sits on the Bayou Vermilion, 3 miles north of Abbeville. The camp includes 3 campsites, a boys and girls bathroom, covered building, covered picnic tables, and a fire ring with bench seating. This camp is the perfect size for unit campouts and can comfortably camp up to 125 people.

The site was donated by the Steen family as a memorial to their parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Steen.

Camp Brownell Canoe Base

Just North of Morgan City in Stephensville, Camp Brownell Canoe Base is a beautiful 5.2 acre parcel of land situated on Bayou Long. Scattered Hardwood Trees provide shade to 1.5 acres while an equal amount remains mostly open. The camp includes a fishing dock, a 2-stall bathroom with rinse showers. A pavilion provides additional cover for inclement weather or meal preparation.

This is a great camp for Unit campouts and can comfortably camp 90, maxing out at 125.

Carruth Scout Preserve

Camp Carruth is conveniently located about 20 minutes from Baton Rouge. In the past 3 years it has undergone various improvements to the grounds and facilities. It has a large covered, lighted pavilion which can be reserved for daytime activities such as training, as well as pack or den activities. There are separate boys and girls restrooms and each have a large private shower. There are large clean campsites, as well as some wooded sites. It can accommodate any size pack or troop campout or activity. Plenty of woods and hiking trails are available for outings. It is large enough for any size group to have a good time, yet not so big as to overwhelm them.

Camp Thistlewaite

Camp Thistlewaite is located in Washngton, LA ideal for troop weekend camping.

The Evangeline Area started using this site in 1924, known then as Camp Evangeline. The property was donated to the Council by the heirs of John R. Thistletwhaite by an act of donation on June 11, 1934 from the Thistlethwaite Planting Company, Ltd. John R. Thistelthwaite served as the Chairman of the Opelousas District Committee. This site was also at one time used by the Opelousa Indian Tribe.

It is some 125 acres of mixed hardwood timber. This facility is semi primitve as there is running water but it is NOT POTABLE (so bring your drinking/cooking water), there are also two flush toilets with a cold water shower.

Bring a fishing pole and try your luck in Lake Lang which was named after a long time Scout Executive Bernard A. “Pops” Lang. Before working for the Evangeline Area, Pops was a Coach and Assistant Principle of Lafayette High School.
