Merit Badge Day

Big Skills, Big Fun, Big Adventures!

What are Merit Badge Days?

If you’re a Scout looking to learn new skills, explore new passions, and earn merit badges in a single action-packed day — Merit Badge Days provide the perfect opportunities! Hosted by the South Louisiana Council, Merit Badge Days are some of the most exciting events on the Scouting calendar, bringing together Scouts from across the region for hands-on learning, unforgettable experiences, and the thrill of earning badges that matter.

Think of it as a supercharged learning event designed specifically for Scouts who are ready to dive deep into a subject — whether that’s science, citizenship, athletics, outdoor skills, or something totally new — all in one dedicated day of focused, fun-filled activity. Instead of working toward a merit badge over weeks or months on your own, Merit Badge Days put you in the middle of expert instruction, real equipment, and a community of fellow Scouts who are just as fired up as you are. It’s Scouting at full speed.

Different Locations, Even Bigger Experiences

The South Louisiana Council hosts Merit Badge Days at a variety of locations throughout our community—from Morgan City High School in the heart of the Atchafalaya Basin to the campus of LSU in Baton Rouge and beyond. These large-scale events offer Scouts the opportunity to earn multiple merit badges in a single day while enjoying a vibrant atmosphere and connecting with fellow Scouts from across South Louisiana. Our community partners play a vital role in making these events possible, opening their doors and sharing their expertise to create unique learning experiences that inspire curiosity, growth, and exploration.

Ready to Find Your Next Adventure?

From dedicated Archery Merit Badge Days at our local Scout camps, a Nuclear Science Merit Badge Day at a local nuclear power plant, to multi-badge blowouts at iconic venues, there’s always something exciting on the horizon. These focused, single-badge events are intimate, energetic, and designed to give Scouts a fully immersive experience. Check out the South Louisiana Council’s upcoming event calendar and sign up before spots fill — because trust us, they always do!

Participate
in a Merit Badge Day

Merit Badge Day is all about YOU calling the shots! Scouts register in advance and build their own personalized class schedule based on their interests, class availability, and guidance from their Scoutmaster. From there, it’s GO time — Scouts move through their schedule, dive into each class, and at the end of the day receive a report of all the requirements they completed. Hand that report off to your Advancement Chair or Scoutmaster and you’re on your way!

Maybe — and here’s why that’s actually exciting! Some classes are designed to be completed in full during the event, especially if you’ve knocked out your pre-requisites beforehand (more on that below). But for most merit badges, you’ll make serious progress and walk away with the contact information for your Merit Badge counselor so you can finish strong and get that badge officially signed off. Either way, you’re leaving with real skills and real momentum. That’s a win!

First things first — check the program guide! It’ll spell out exactly what materials and pre-requisites are needed for each class you’ve signed up for, so no surprises on the big day. Beyond that? Pack an open mind, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude. Those three things will take you further than anything else you could stuff in your backpack!
